Solve : Is optical mouse bad for the eyes??

Answer»

I just purchased a Labtec optical mouse. However, my kids sometime turn it over and stare at the light for a few seconds, before I catch them!

Is this a true laser light that can destroy eyes, or just an L.E.D.? I am hoping someone here WOULD have the answer. When in doubt protect your kids. Strong bright BEAMS of light might be harmful too.

If in doubt, throw it out!   Quote

Any laser light MUST be marked as such with the appropriate warnings.  In this case it's only an LED.
Still not good for the eyes however... I mean, the sun isn't a laser, but you can't look at that lol  Just be careful

Glad to know it is not a true laser. Nevertheless, I will make sure they don't play with it.
Good plan. I liked Flame's sun reference very well. Thanks! lol

HOW AN OPTICAL MOUSE WORKS

hehehe...one of the FIRST places I went to, but there is nothing there about possible a threat to the eyes.I was wearing welders goggles at the time.

Now that IS bad for the eyes and if you ever get arc-eye you'll know why.Ouch! It doesn't take much of a crack in the goggles, does it?
