Answer» Is there anything I can do to my wireless D-Link router to decrease lag? Cause when I play cod2, I lag almost EVERY 15 seconds.. and when I plug my computer straight into my modem.. its great.. this lag all started happening like 4 days ago before that my router worked fine. I am wired to a wireless router cause it has RJ45 ports if you want wired. Ive tried resetting it to default and everything.. but it just doesnt do anything. Is there anything I can do to my router to help with this annoying lag?Are you using ADSL and also getting poor telephone audio? If so, call the local telecom company to TEST your signal. If it is an exterior line problem, they can replace the phone line and greatly increase your bandwidth. If it is an interior wiring problem, you can have someone replace the phone wiring in your home.
If you are using a cable modem, your bandwidth is limited by the number of people in your AREA using the cable network. The more people online in your neighborhood, the slower your speed will be. In this case, try going online early in the morning or later in the evening, as fewer users will be competing for bandwidth.
Try connecting your PC or laptop directly to the router with a CAT 6 network cable to the RJ-45 port, as wired (Ethernet) networking is often faster than wireless.
DocMy pc is wired, and I have a DSL modem. The lag completely stops when I plug my RJ45 straight into the modem, its just when I plug it into my router it lags..Some games require special handling through a router. I'm not familiar with D-Link, but my Linksys has a page under port forwarding where you can SET it up for special applications. You enter the name of the application and the ports required, check the protocols (tcp/ip and/or udp) and forward to your internal address. Sometimes, if the application uses odd packets, disabling SPI will help. I would not RECOMMEND disabling SPI unless absolutely necessary.well, i had the ports forwarded cause i used to run a cod2 server on my computer, but idk ill do re-do it since i reset my router.k well i forwarded the ports and it was great for about 30min to an hour.. then it started back up again.um, ok the ports are forwarded and it still lags. It's possible your router has a built-in hardware firewall, which will protect your computer but slow things down. You might be able to shut the firewall off on the router using software installed on your PC with the disc that came with it, but i would not recommend this.
