Solve : Laptop battery discharge?

Answer»

I have a Sony FW Laptop Computer and it is only 3 weeks old. I have discovered that when the battery is attached to the computer and the computer is completely turned off the batter loses at least 8% of its life in a 12 hour period. When I say the computer is off I mean exactly that, everything is off.

On contacting Sony I have been TOLD that they accept 25% as perfectly reasonable inn that situation. I insisted that was totally unacceptable and also that 8% over the given period when the battery was FULLY charged was unacceptable. They AGREED to either send an engineer out to check the computer or change the battery . Why if there was nothing wrong, as far as they were concerned, were they suggesting that? They merely repeated the offer, and after I agreed to change the battery they commented "That should solve your problem". Problem? They said there was no problem!!!!

On checking if I had received the new battery and I had acknowledged receipt I told them the same situation pertained. They reaffirmed that 8% over a 12 hour period was acceptable.

IS IT???i just finished with a 6 week old dell laptop. the battery indicator in the bios says 88% at full charge.

I dont know any better than you whats acceptable, to be honest, but I'd take 92% and run with it.I think you have misunderstood my message. Please forgive me if I have not made it clear enough.
1. The computer is new.
2. The battery has been configured.
3. The battery is not in use over the 10 hour test period. It is attached to the computer but the computer is completely shut down Nothing is running. In that period under those conditions 8% of running time was USED.
4. The battery should last 280 Min's in use , (that is the claim)
5. 8% of 280 Min's is 22.4 The computer used the equivalent of running 22,4 minutes.

I hope that puts it into some sort of perspective
