Solve : Laptop doesn't turn on at all? |
|
Answer» Sony VAIO PCG-384L doesn't turn on at all when I press the power button. ...Could the motherboard be dead? If the CPU was fine and the mobo still works, the laptop would at least partially turn on, right? (because right now, not even the LEDs come on). Could there be some short circuit, because looking at the board, I don't see anything that could be causing a short circuit...You need at least 1 RAM module to POST, but you seem to have done everything I would. I think mobo is dead. I had one fail the same way. You won't be able to see, visually, what failed. There are places that buy dead laptops, they disassemble & sell the parts, i.e. AC adapter, screen, keyboard, RAM, etc.Unless there were other events leading up to this point that indicated issues when using the computer it is hard to IMAGINE a catastrophic result like you have now. The one thing that is common to all your attempts at solution (well perhaps not the only one thing) is the power button switch itself. Given that this is a laptop checking it will not be as easy as it would be on a DESKTOP. Perhaps another member might suggest a way for you to test that. truenorthTN: Many times, laptops give no indication of impending doom. 1 day they are alive, the next day they are dead. I had mine do that, 11 months into the 12 month warranty. Sent it back for repair and purchased the extended warranty for 2 more years. Hard drive died in the 3rd year. I know you have a new laptop & hope your luck is better. BTW, mine is 11 years old & still works. Thanks for the responses. The same thing happened to another laptop about 2 weeks AGO, it wouldn't turn on at all, I was almost 100% sure the mobo had died. The same thing probably happened to this one too. I looked at the power button too, I took the front panel off and tried turning it on by DIRECTLY pressing the little button, it didn't help. I posted this on other forums too, so I will see what others have to say. Do you guys know if I can buy a mobo for this laptop anywhere? I can't find one on eBay. I might try reflowing some chips on the mobo to see if it will fix it.You can try to check your laptop's lcd backlight, maybe it is this problem. It's not the backlight. No.Did both of these laptops work when you got them or did they had PROBLEMS from the moment you first tried running them? The first laptop was having video problems, I fixed the GPU with a reflow, and then it started having problems again (3-4 months later), most likely due to over heating, the laptop was notorious for having heating issues and GPU issues. This laptop (the VAIO) didn't turn on before I got it, and now it still doesn't turn on. I reflowed some chips on the mobo and will be putting it back together soon, but I don't think it will turn on, there must be some component(s) that aren't working anymore on the mobo that I can't find or a short circuit somewhere. If it's on this list, you may receive compensation: http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/I'm not a US resident though. |
