Solve : Laptop Not Displaying anything?

Answer»

Hello,

I am a student doing computer networking and internet technology at college so all my family think I KNOW everything about computer....which I don't lol
So the other day my dads friend hands me his LAPTOP whille he is over and said "It won't work. I pulled cables out and its now not WORKING" and then said "can you try fix it " so here I am.

I turned on the laptop and it shows a power light and fans start spinning but nothing else (nothing on screen)
I have tryied connecting the laptop to a LCD TV via VGA to have the same result as above.
Am a bit lost on what I should do next any ideas would be super

thanks steven1) Explain to them you are not a computer expert
2) He pulled cables out? What does that mean?Yeah m8 I tryied explaining lol.. I guess its good practice

Ok from what I gather the guy uses the laptop as a sort of media Hub. CONNECTS it to his TV and Amplifier and a microphone for sing alongs (I try avoid his house as much as possible). So after they finished kicking the jams he pulled all the cables out whille the laptop was running. The laptop then shut off with out warning. He tryied turning it on the next day to get nothing on screen. (I told him it was his bad singing lol. That didn't go down well)

Not to sure which connectors he uses to connect everything but he isn't tech minded at all so prob VGA and headphone jack for sound. He could have shorted out something when he pulled the cables. The laptop should go to a computer repair shop or back to the manufacturer for repair. Is there any way of repairing this problem from HOME?

I did a little course on opening and rebuilding laptops but not problem solving or electronic repairs.. So would it be worth me taking the computer apart and then rebuilding it....basicly will the problem be instantly clear once I open it ?

I know allready the laptop will get binned and a replacement bought if it means handing it over to a computer repair man...The laptop isn't amazing just got the job doneI have no idea what's wrong with it. It needs to be disassembled and looked at by a pro. If you want to take it upon yourself to do so that's your business, but I can't offer any further advice. Sorry.
