Solve : Laptop powers on, shuts back off within 5-30 seconds?

Answer»

Hi All-
I'd greatly appreciate some advice. I am doing online classes and this is the last thing I need right now...LOL!!!

I was using my laptop, and it suddenly powered COMPLETELY off. It will turn back on for 5-30 seconds and the powers off as if someone flipped a switch. Sometimes it powers off almost immediately, sometimes I can get to the HP Invent Screen, and some times I can make it to Windows Error Recovery screen.

I have the same problem on battery power, on a/c power, and on a/c power with the battery out. The blue power LIGHT remains on when the cord is plugged in.

I have not had any problems, previously, before this happened today. Thanks in ADVANCE for any ideas!!!

JennWill the battery charge?

The most simple thing is that you'll need a new power cord. Perhaps the transformer unit on the power cord no longer functions correctly.Quote from: AEGIS on September 18, 2009, 10:52:15 AM

Yes, the battery charges just FINE. I was on battery power when it cut off. I don't think it's the power cord.If you can get it to stay on for any length of time. Immediately back-up all your important data to a flash drive. I'm afraid to say, it's very likely the motherboard is on the verge of complete failure.

If this does occur, you can still retrieve the data from the hard drive, but it won't be easy, unless you have a little experience.
