Answer» ???SOMEONE told me that Running a computer DJ setup would have better sound quality if I use a desktop or rack mount computer instead of a laptop. Can someone tell me if that is true? Are the sound cards different or better in desktops?desktops have an advantage over laptops...power wise?it just not the sound CARD but the software that used?If you really want you can use different speakers than the ones built into your laptop?...I think, I can for the desktop atleast, and then you could you speakers that draw their own power from an outlet.
For example I have my computer sound come out of a home thater system, or the actual speakers, depending which is powered on.Speakers aside, the quality of sound is most noticable with the actual MP3's or whatever FORMAT you are using. TRY ripping a track at different quality and you'll see what I mean.
Apart from that, destops are generally tastier under the hood than laptops, although nowadays the differences won't be too noticable. The advantage you have with a desktop is that they can be upgraded, where laptops have most of the stuff directly soldered on to the motherboard.
Out of curiosity, is this a personal setup or are you DJing in clubs? I ASK this because if it's the latter, I doubt you want to be carting a PC, monitor, keyboard etc with you to each club... I am considering using a computer for a DJ setup at small clubs etc... I would carry the bulkier equipment if it meant getting a professional sound quality.I think you're better off at a forum that covers sound quality and equpment.
