i have an HP laptop with windows XP, service pack 2.0 and just recently i have a purple vertical line on the right side of my screen and also a yellow line that runs from top to bottom and will not go away. thank you for any help that you can give me. mikewas it an application?did you install anything?what is the OS ?
no i have not installed anything. the line just appeared while i was online and after rebooting it was still there. and now i have another line on my screen but this one if flickering on and off.os stand for "operating system" like windows 98, windows xp, windows vista and so on.can you describe what are the vertical line are?is it from system configuration?application?of its your monitor faulty?he said the OS in the HEADER sentence. it just randomly appear or a bluescreen WITHOUT the blue. have you run a virus scan, if not do it. download and run Hijackthis (google it) and post the log here.This is most likely a hardware related issue and not an infection...

However, it wouldn't hurt to make sure your malware protection is updated...boot into Safe Mode and run a full system scan...for more information check out the following guide:
