Solve : Laptop with monitor screen issues...?

Answer»

I just bought a new Acer 24" monitor for use at home with my 15.6 inch laptop and everything works fine apart from there being a slight problem with the screen on either the monitor or the laptop depending on which one of them is my primary display. For example, if I was to use my laptop as my main display then my monitor will only let me use half of the screen and the rest will be black and unusable. But if I was to use my monitor as the primary display then I will have a small part of my laptop screen cut off at the bottom. The monitors resolution is 1920x1080 and the laptop is 1366x768. Lower resolutions on either the laptop or monitor give different results.

my monitor is an Acer s240hl connected to my laptop using the VGA plug

I have been looking all over the net for possible fixes but alas have found none. Any help will be appreciated thanks.

Good morning turbomike135 and welcome to CH

Are you setting your LCD and "extend my desktop" or are you "set up as duplicate image"

To Identify your display in the adjust screen resolution there should be a BUTTON for "identify" then you will see a big 1 or 2 on the display

you can have different resolutions on the displays both the resolutions you put up here they both look 16x9

My self I have a DV7 and a G60 and have DONE this with both of them.

if you are getting top half with a picture and bottom half black it can be a driver issue but more than likely just the resolution that is chosen

Is the resolution being set the same on both monitors if so that is your problem because with them being a different size they can not be set to the same resolution (i.e both can not be set to 1366x768 etc)

Hope to hear from you soon, Mike Ok well, I am already using extended display feature but have tried the others. Everything else seems to work fine except with that extended desktop between this laptop and the monitor. I just tried with a different laptop and had no issues, although that ones resolution wasn't 16:9. I have a feeling that it is something to do with a driver that I haven't installed but I don't know what to look for. There is one ATI technologies update which I have been trying to download but it has been giving me issues and not working. Apart from that one thing there isn't really anything else I can think of. I will try and install this update and see after that. Thanks

[EDIT]
Ok I installed that update that almost broke my computer and it fixed the problem. HOWEVER, and this is a big however. My computer doesn't seem to recognise my ATI drivers any more and therefore is using the backup one. This was the problem that stopped me from getting that last update in the first place and it seems that its the fix that breaks something more important. Anyway thanks for helping. That's one fix leading to another problemHi again turbomike135

What is the whole model of the PC (DV6-1325 etc) this will be on the bottom of the laptop

We might be able to help you better and point you to the correct one, Thanks Mike It is the dv6-6023TX module. It's almost a year old so its still fairly new. This is the first major issue I have had with it.Good morning again turbomike135

Here is the link to HP there are 2 different video drivers 1 is AMD and 1 is Intel just download the one you have and considering you said that ATI poped up needing updating just download the AMD / ATI (same company by the way just in case you don't know that) http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5079569#N376

Plus just in case you don't know both the resolutions that you posted are both 16:9 (widescreen)1920x1080 and 1366x768 they are just different sizes.

Please let us know how you MAKE out, Mike  Well the problem seems to be fixed so hopefully it will stay that way thanks for your help!
