Solve : LCD Monitor Help?

Answer»

I'm wanting to upgrade from my old CRT monitor to a newer 17" LCD. I'm not SURE that my current onboard video will support a monitor with 1280x1024 resolution. Is there anyway to determine before I buy the monitor if my current video will support the newer monitor or do I need to buy a newer video card?

My system is only 3yrs old. Using Pentium 4, Socket 478 with onboard SIS651 chipset.
Thanks for your help.
WislnCan you set your resolution to 1280x1024 with your current monitor? Is your current monitor 17 inch?My current monitor is 15" and the best resolution I can set is 1024x 768 in Windows XP.you should be able to but you MIGHT have to update your video drivers. Are u asking if that CHIP will run XP at 1280x1024?

Of course it will. Any GPU will support RUNNING an OS at whatever resolution.

BTW, maybe u should get a 19". A 15" is actually only 14". So going from 14" to 19" should be very nice.Quote from: wislndixie on June 22, 2007, 08:55:19 AM

Most likely, the limitation there is due to the monitor, not your onboard video. Since your system is "only 3 years old", I believe it will surely support greater resolution SETTINGS with a newer monitor.
