Answer» If the existing CRT is replaced by an LCD monitor is a new video card needed ? If so, how is correct one determined ? Thanx
Bob Palm Bay, FLNo new video card is needed. No, a new video card is not needed, as long as your new LCD monitor SUPPORTS the type of video connector from you existing onboard video or video card. So, if your computer has a VGA/D-Sub connector for a monitor, then you need to get a monitor that works with a VGA/D-Sub connector. If your computer has a DVI connector for a monitor, then you need to get a monitor that works with a DVI connector. Some LCD monitors have both VGA and DVI connectors/ports. Some video cards have both connectors. The VGA connector is the fifteen pin connector which is usually blue in color. This is the type of connector which has been around for many years. The DVI connector is the newer type, and is usually white or off-white.Quote from: Aegis on April 08, 2009, 11:11:10 AM Some video cards have both connectors.
Yes, and a DVI port can be used for a monitor needing a VGA connector, by using a DVI-to-VGA adapter. Some video cards come with them. If not, they can be purchased and are not very EXPENSIVE.
