Have you tested it on another computer?Either way, laptop or external flat panel monitor, I'm AFRAID this sounds expensive. A DEFECT in a monitor's ribbon cables is tricky to repair, if that's what it is. And anything else may well write off the monitor. Possibly it's an inverter, which can be replaced, but you may need an expert to TEST if for you.
