Solve : letter assignments to hard drives?

Answer»

I have 2 HDS inside the computer. I have a raid controller that I can slide removeable HDs in 2 bays. The drives inside are C: and D: when I put a HD in one of the bays it assigins it with the letter D: and pushes all others up.
I have
A: floppy C: D: HDs inside CDROMS E: F:

when I put the HDs in the removeable drives I NEED them to be assigned G: H:

any ideas?? :-?Except for the floppy, any permanent storage device will take precedence over any removable storage device. HD's, even externals, are permanent storage. You can try GOING into device manager and ASSIGNING the drive letters manually. It might work, but you could also get some unexpected results. I would start by CHANGING the externals to unused letters like X and Z, then reboot. If the CD's then show the desired letters, change the externals to G and H and reboot again.
