This will help determine if the problem is the drive or your computer..
Have you tried plugging the drive into a different controller (connector) on the motherboard?no i dont have another computer to try it on i did try puting the data cable in the other spot but made no differentI think either your power supply is failing, or the drive is defective.
Have you tried another cable? Do you have another one that you can borrow, perhaps from another device?
no i dont the only other one i got is pluged into the hard drive and i think its got a different end i will probaly have to by another data cord and try itWhy don't you just contact the manufacturer of the drive for support? Maybe they'll send you another drive.
But still, we haven't ruled out the psu, yet..
If you can FIND your self a digital multimeter, I can help you test the power supply in your computer...
1. Power Supply. Perhaps you've exceeded the capacity of the power supply...
Were you "replacing" an OPTICAL drive or adding one to your system?
2. Disable Auto RESTART. Your system may be "blue screening". From the Windows Advanced Options menu, use the up/down arrow keys to select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press key.
Hopefully it will stop on a blue screen.
3. Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Report the "exact" STOP code string with its four parameters as well as any SHORT error string and/or software module it might name.
4. Windows Advanced Options Menu. Use the <F8> function key during system startup to access the Windows Advanced Options Menu. Tap the key once or twice per second as you startup the computer (or immediately after POST completes and screen flashes black prior to displaying Windows XP logo with its processing bar display).adding one
