Answer» My Dell 1764 laptop suddenly has lost the DVD drive.... The device manager indicated a problem, I tried to install updated drivers and unistalled the drive. When I restarted it says drivers not found . I am running Windows 7 and have not had any trouble before. I thought it would reinstall it's self, but no luck
Any help would be great.Does the drive show up in BIOS?

Edit I'm sorry. It looks like that patch only works with XP. Try this one instead. http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-usA quick fix , thanks to the good guy's. I simply OPENED the registry editor and deleted the upper and lower filters. After restarting the laptop my DVD drive was recognized and good to go. Thanks again,
