Solve : Machine freezes instantly?

Answer»

Hello friends,
I am using an Intel Celeron System with Intel 845GVSR MOBO.There is 256 MB RAM(128x2).My OS is Windows XP.My Keyboard is PS/2 and mouse is USB.One day by mistake I CONNECTED the Keyboard to the PS/2 PORT for mouse and the system didn't boot up.I realized this after a number of futile attempts to restart and once I knew this connected the KB to the correct port. But thereafter the machine failed to work properly.
I tried with CMOS settings, replacing the SMPS,re-seating the RAM sticks, replacing the MOBO with a same made and at one time the system got working. But the present problem is that it will go to a standstill amidst of working ,with the monitor displaying what it was (and sometimes a black screen) and with the keyboard and mouse not responding. The HDD and power LED will be on then.
The even strange thing is that at this stage the restart button is not functioning,I have to power-off the system manually and after a lot of power on and off it will work correctly for some time. And then the freezing. The Samsung monitor (CRT)is working correctly when tested with another system. While restarting after this freezing the power LED of the monitor will be blinking green as if no signal is there.

Please help me.........I am in pity after this much replacements and the sustaining problem!Borrow a PS2 mouse and try it with that...dis-connect any USB devices not being used.I am having a similiar problem. I haven't gotten it fixed yet. Sorry for not being any help lol.Thank you.....
I tried the PS/2 mouse but no improvement. Now,if I am removing the CMOS cell and switch-on after inserting the cell, the machine shows a message such as 'memory error' and a prompt to enter CMOS Setup by pressing F4.After saving the CMOS SET up the machine will work perfectly but for a short time.
Any suggestions?I just got my problem resolved and I'll tell you the solution though it may have nothing to do with yours but is worth checking.

Mine was overheating which I knew, but I did not know why. Well, a clip on the heatsink over the cpu broke and it was lose and not doing its job. So I could have either ordered a new clip, but thats not what I did do. my grandpa fixed it with a piece of plastic that was gonna be thrown away. He like ATTACHED it to the broken part and now it works fine. It is awesome. I'm amazed my grandpa did it as he is 82.
