Tsunami advisories are in effect for Hawaii and Southern California after a powerful magnitude-8.3 earthquake struck the Pacific Ocean waters just off the COAST of Chile Wednesday evening, generating a dangerous 15-foot tsunami along parts of the Chilean coast. Chilean AUTHORITIES said at least eight people died as a result of earthquake-related incidents.
The tsunami is fanning out across much of the Pacific Ocean, though the worst of its power is expected to be focused westward toward French Polynesia, including Tahiti.
Is this why the reindeer are dying ? ?Patio, be serious.
Any 8.3 quake near the ocean is a real threat. A few years ago many people in Madagascar died because NOBODY told them.

Megatsunami is an informal term to describe a tsunami that has initial wave heights that are much larger than normal tsunamis. Unlike usual tsunamis – which originate from tectonic activity and the raising or lowering of the sea floor – known megatsunamis have originated from a large-scale landslide, collision, or volcanic ERUPTION event.

Other references explain that a Tsunami can become much larger that expected. Sometimes an order of magnitude. (Ten times larger.)

Japan just now has issued evacuation of some areas because of the Chile 8.3 quake that hit yesterday. A tsunami travels slower than shock waves, but it can carry a big payload.

All of the islands of Malaysia and the south pacific are in potential danger. So I put this here in the hope of saving at least one life. Some of CH readers live in those areas and might have missed the news. I hope not.

Anybody in the south Pacific needs to listen to the radio . Or search the internet for updates. There is a history of Pacific Ocean TIDAL waves that killed thousand in the past. It might happen again. Stay away from the beach if you live near the Pacific Ocean.
