Solve : major meltdown?

Answer»

I was just in the middle of a great game of doom 3  when all of a sudden EVERYTHING shutdown and nothing came back. After a few min. the fans started flickering. A few min. later, the fans came back on and stayed on along with the temp display but nothing else. Also I could smell burnt smell. Didn't see any burn marks inside. After unplugging it and replugging it in, the pc just  stayed on (fans and temp display). I get nothing else(no monitor,no keyboard or mouse lights. Nothing! Could this be a Power Supply issue or something else?I could really use everyone's input. My config is as follows: Amd atholon 64 3000,Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939,420 Watt power, Corsair 512mb pro ram,Nvidia Geforce-FX 5700LE 256MB, 160 GB HARD DRIVES Quote

I suspect the power supply burned out.  Does the smell COME from the power supply?  Was the power supply choked with dust?
no dust, brand new pc, only a month old. Not sure where the smell is coming from though. temp does climb about 4-5 degrees when plugged back in.Same guest, just waiting for my confirm email to be a member. wouldn't let me use the same name. So i used the "811" at the end to MAKE it work.I'm guessing this is a "home-built" computer.  If so, you have just performed a "burn-in" test.  Sometimes a "burn-in" test becomes a "burn-out" test.

Pull the video card, visually inspect it and smell it.  If you can find where the smell came from, that will lead to where the problem is.  I know this is hard to do.  If there are any "burn marks", it's usually impossible to see them.

Time for warranty replacement on whatever is burned out.nope, not homebuilt. built and bought from I buypower.com they have a 48hr burn in.stillhere......I wouldnt spend any time sorting it out ....get a hold of whomever you bought it from and have them replace it for you ....or give you a full refund .....

dl65  I agree with the previous post.  If it's only a month old, they should replace it, no QUESTIONS asked.
