Answer» Does Maxtor provide hard drive utilities? If so, how can I find them; searching has so far been useless.
I'm FAMILIAR only with WD. They have a site that provides support, with downloadable utilities that (1) check the conditionof a drive (2) prepare a drive for use, very quickly.
I have a new 250G Maxtor IED drive to put into an important Win98 system. Basic Windows tools will not handle such a large drive properly. I've previoiusly done with WD drives what I now NEED to do with the Maxtor (basically create several FAT32 PARTITIONS that Win98 can use: a primary DOS partition for the OS and an extended DOS partition containing several logical partitions) so I know there is no basic problem -- unless Maxtor does not provide the support.Maxtor has been bought out by Seagate...check their site for the utilities using the part # on your drive...http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
