Solve : Melted/Fried??

Answer»

ENTIRE computer shut down, all lights, fans, everything.  Tried to restart.....nothing.  I opened the case and the psu and video were hot to the touch.  I then replaced the psu with a scrap model and the fans came on(not the hdd because of no available SATA plug).  I ordered up a new psu and the moment I plugged it in I got the fans on with the hdd sounding good but no video.  Turned off and BACK on.  What I got was continuous BEEP and fans whirring but no video.  Tested new psu and it was fried.  Sent back my video card to XfX and it is fried along with my Kinston RAM.  Can I plug in my processor into another working box to find out if it's ok or will that hurt the only good box I have left?  I think the MB is totally shot because it keeps frying everything I throw at it.  PLEASE help a lowly noob:(

This is a custom build that has worked flawlessly for about 2.5 YEARS.  The specs are:
MSI K9N4 Sli-f MB
AMD 4200 dual core
Ultra 600w psu
XFX 8800 Video card
3g Kingston RAM (6400)
400g HDD (SATA)
Floppy drive
Litescribe DvD player/burner
pci wireless card

Just standard stuff really...... Thanx 4 all the help!NO!No? No what. HUH?! Quote from: scottisaNOOB on January 20, 2010, 12:51:04 PM

No? No what. HUH?!
Your post indicates that your system suffered major physical damage. Any more testing and experimentation will possibility do damage to replacement components. 'No' is reasonable answer.
This is not my private opinion. It is the standard advice of techs in the PC hardware industry consumer support. We assume that you are a consumer and you do not have a full-equipped laboratory and a large research budget. Is that correct? No, I do not have a 'lab'.  I have a bedroom with a computer in it.  I have already sent all of my parts back to the manufacturer and am waiting for them to come home.  It's neat that I figured this one out on my own.  I just don't want to spend the money on a new processor if I don't have to.  Ah well, it's time to upgrade anyways.  The old MB and processor are going in the round file.Sorry about your loss. The CPU and the motherboard have a very tight  relationship. When smoke comes up we just don't KNOW which item started the fire. It is often the CPU that cooks and burns the weatherboard. So the CPU looks good, but its fried inside.
Thnx dude.  I was hoping that the cpu was still good but F'it.  I'm buying new stuff
