Solve : Memory Ram?

Answer»

I have Gateway LX 6200-01 AMD PHENOM x 4 .It's showing it has 8GB ram but only 3GB usable.
I don't know if there is a problem with the board or something else, the computer is not running like it should be,it keep on blinking or losing the video.then it will be normal again.I upgrade the video card with ATI HD 4350 1GB and still blink.I could not think of anything beside the memory.
Is there anybody can help me to solve this problem?
Windows 32-bit operating systems will only recognize a maximum of 4GB memory. Realistically, it's about 3GB.
http://www.geoffchappell.com/viewer.htm?doc=notes/windows/license/memory.htmThanks for info.It has Vista 64 bit also show 8GB memory ( usable3GB) then I upgrade into Window 7 Ultimate 64 bit and still 3 usable GB,What is the purpose putting 8GB of ram if not all usable?
Yesterday I downgrade to Windows XP Pro hoping it will used all the ram but I create more problem (cannot find drivers for XP) so I install Window 7 ultimate 32 bit, also I may add I replaced the hard drive with Hitachi 1 TB hard drive .It maybe the hard drive was causing to blink.
What would HAPPEN if I REMOVED 4GB?
Thanks againQuote from: catarroja on April 29, 2010, 06:52:05 PM

1. Vista 64 should show 8GB
2. Win7 64 should show 8GB.
3. Only works with 64-bit
4. Won't work.
5. Hard drive has no effect.
6. Given what you have said, nothing will happen. Don't know issue with #1 & #2.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605/
Was the OEM INSTALLED OS 32-bit or 64-bit?
If the original OS was 32-bit you will need to go to gateway and DOWNLOAD the 64-bit chipset driver.Everybody,I thank you for your help,I had to reload the original windows vista home 64 bit.it did work ,see all the memory ram.then I upgrade it onto widows 7 home Premium 64 Bit now I am very happy with it,except one thing that that's in different issue, which I may post later.
Thanks again
