Answer» I am looking into purchasing a lap top with some very valuable programs on it. The programs were licenced to that lap top. Is it possible to transfer the programs to another laptop or a spare hard drive (so I can have a back up incase something happens to the current lap top )? Please advise this laptop is on e-bay and has only 4 days LEFT on the auction. I dont know much about computers, but what does cloning a hard drive do. This will create an exact image of the contents of the drive including the OS, Programs and all data on the drive at the time it is cloned...these are usually burned to a DVD for safekeeping. However it will not work on just any machine...only the one the image was made on. This is because later versions of Windows tie themselves to the hardware configuration they were installed on/Ha, I thought, I was wrong somewhere. Since we're at this subject, during my search, I found this: http://www.rickysays.com/How-to-transfer-programs-to-another-hard-drive-or-computer Quote I was able to move programs like Microsoft Office and Panda Internet Security from my work computer to my wife's laptop with SystemSuite's Transport WizardSystem Suite link: http://www.v-com.com/product/SystemSuite_Home.html VCom has written some pretty powerful apps thru the YEARS...if anyone can make this work it would be them. I downloaded "trial" version last night, so I'll see what that program can do. At the same time, I'm wondering about legality of programs like that, since you could have countless copies of Office, for INSTANCE, without paying a dime. |
