Answer» Here is the California "minimum" speed law on a highway.

I just back from out of town. When I entered the freeway to come home someone in front of me (middle-aged guy in his 50s) was going anywhere from 40 - 50 miles per hour while entering the freeway, just cruising. I don't recall the exact speed but it was relatively slow. I was waving my hands at him in his rear view mirror, in a sense saying "What the heck!" and he mocked me. By the time I was on the freeway the cars behind us were going much faster and I had to speed up to merge with the flow of traffic and pull around this guy. I gave him the "birdy" as I drove past him and he gave me the bird right back. I have to admit I lost my temper. Are some drivers just stupid or are they looking for trouble? So what was the minimum speed on that ROAD?
"Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?” - George CarlinGood question, don't know. But I doubt that guy had previously looked it up and was attempting to drive at the slowest allowed speed. All I know is that, by the time I was on the freeway, the cars behind us were gaining quickly. He did happen to exit at the very next exit which wasn't too far up. He might have figured, "why speed up when I have to slow down again so soon?" But that's no reason to impede traffic. I do know I could see the guy clearly through his back window and he kept looking at me through his rear view mirror. He knew someone was behind him (me) attempting to merge onto the freeway and seemed to not give a crap or was deliberately trying to piss me off. A while back a diesel driver swerved into my lane while attempting to pass him, to intimidate me or something. Some people are just crazy, I should have gotten his license number and reported it, but I didn't think about it at the time.
Whatever the case, people should merge on a freeway and do as little as possible to impede traffic and this guy was clearly not doing that. I might add that the entrance ramp was downhill pretty good so I know the grade wasn't a problem for him.
On the other hand I should watch my temper, I may not be so lucky the next few times someone pisses me off, as people have been known to pull out guns over things like this. If you go to YouTube and type in "road rage" you'll see some interesting stuff. hee hee You tube is a world of excitement. When I notice someone following too closely in my rear view, I slow down. Sometimes, I even give them a brake-check. heh, that I can understand, especially if I'm all ready going over the speed limit.
I'd be careful though, I've read some pretty nasty stories. If you get under the wrong person's skin you could be the target of a few rounds of bullets. I carry pepper spray everywhere I go so if someone comes up to my window looking for trouble I'll just let them have it! Pepper spray does not work well against bullets...Wow. American drivers are a crazy bunch.
Then again, the streets there are overall, more crowded, which becomes a problem pretty quickly.

Actually I wasn't talking about a situation where a gun is involved. I was talking more along the lines of when someone tries use physical force without a weapon. If someone pulled a gun out on me I'd try to take cover or get away, some how.Maybe Patio meant that pepper spray is no good when they are throwing handfuls of bullets at you.
Or better yet, a hand full of stink bombs. hee hee You know, those little glass viles of fluid that smells like s*** People use to use them in the locker room in high school all the time. I guess people get off on grossing other people out.

Giving in to anger while driving is a SERIOUS compulsive BEHAVIOR that can impair judgment and bring on an an accident.
In all of the USA driving at 45 MPH is both legal and in some cases required by law. If road conditions, hazards, mechanical problems, heavy traffic, high wind, ice, snowfall or any situation that makes speed dangerous the driver is required to slow down to a safe speed.
Many of the freeway on ramps were built so the the only save entry speed is 45 MPM.They were never designed for use by race car drivers. In fact, some on ramps have stops lights! Now way can you enter over 45 MPH with an economy car
If you do not like the public highways, go BUILD your own, but not with my TAX dollars. I am one of many that prefer safety over speed.
Take a minute out of my life, but don't take out my life for a minute. Slow drivers are more of a danger on the roads than speedy ones, it's what causes the speedy ones to go around them and crash! Having a minimum speed law is a good idea.

So then we shroud not have speed laws?
And you believe a high speed crash is safer that a low speed crash?

Where did I say that?
To point it out what I meant in the previous post... underline it's what causes the speedy ones to go around them and crash and add a 'lol' at the end.

The context of my point in this incident is clear enough.
And not that feel a need to explain myself to you, I did mention that I need to watch my temper.
