Solve : modem from V.90 to V.92 very puzzled question ????

Answer»

Ok,

I have been asking questions about this matter even ask a computer tech in my area and nothing has worked. I'll try again or just give up! I have a computer thats says windows2003 home and I have been
trying to get a answering service to work on dailup for now 3wks and my concern is I am on the computer all day , and i don't no who is even calling me on my phone, so i need a answering service , but all the answering

services are compatible with a V.92 voice modem and i have a US ROBOTICS 56K V.90 VOICE HOST INT...
and If i knew this is what came with this computer scince its been so hard to upgrade to a V.92 i would have
never bought this mess! Anyways I had a old gateway computer not working so I took the modem out of the
gateway and put in which is a BCM V.92 56K Modem, so i thought this would solve my problem but NOT !

The answering service has a area to let you run a test to see what modem your computer is runniing and I did a test (Now its showing I am using a BCM V.90 56K modem / but this modem I put in computer is a
BCM 56K V.92 modem, so the tech guy gave me a CD to install the drivers he said i will have to do so I did so,
and it still shows i am using a BCM 56K V.90 MODEM....? MY QUESTION IS WHY? after installing a V.92 modem

my computer still shows i am using a V.90 MODEM..? No one yet can solve this...HELP!

jerry222Did you EVER uninstall the v90 modem? Both hardware and software. It MAY also be possible that your software for the V92 is NOT the correct one. You may be able to find proper drivers on the web (however dial up modems are getting harder to find nowadays). US robotics is an excellent make if you can find a v92 of that brand. many years ago to overcome your very same ISSUE i subscribed to a paid service that provided software that once installed did many THINGS re incoming calls when your line was being used by the computer. IE; answer the call, record a message, display the number calling (if not blocked).have your own recorded voice message, etc. I don't know if such a service is still available. You COULD search for that on-line. My 1st choice would be to try and find either an internal (cheaper) or an external U.S. Robotics v92 56k modem. Or do as we did and bug the H out of your telephone provider to make DSL service available until they give in (took us about 5-10 years).truenorthI want to say thanks for a reply to my question, but NO i did not un-install the V.90 ROBOTICS, i just took out the V.90 ROBOTICS and replace it with a GATEWAY V.92 modem and then I was given a CD to install the proper drivers and , but my system still shows i am using now a BCM V.90 56K modem , but I replaced it with

a BCM V.92 56K modem out of a gateway....? Maybe the un-install is what i should have done , somethings
telling me the 56K V.92 I put in is not taking because the V.90 has yet to be un-installed but how do i un-install the ROBOTICS V.90 version.......is the big question now, then after i un-install the ROBOTICS V.90...THEN i WILL go and re-install the V.92 again does this makes sense.... thanks for a reply very much. You will need to go into add/remove programs to remove any remaining software for the V90 then you will need to go into device manager and locate the v90 modem and delete it. If you need assistance on how to access the device manager just ask and it shall be forthcoming. While your there see if the other v92 modem is listed. If not after you have deleted/uninstalled (remember to also physically remove the modem card from the computer) then you may need to physically remove and reinstall the v92. Then you may get a prompt to say new hardware found. Or you may have to go to my computer and install it (software) from the "hardware" icon. Anyway start the process and if you run into problems post back and hopefully we can assist you.truenorth
