Solve : Moniter screen?

My monitor screen keeps going off. All I have to do it TURN it off, then back on and it works again. My questions is what is this a sympton off?? AGE of monitor?? Display Adaptor?? FIRMWARE?? What?? And how might I fix it??

I have a ViewSonic, VG500 purchased 9/2003

Purchased 12/2005 Dell E310 running Windows XP Service Pack 2, Pentium 4, 3.2GHz, 1g memory, display adapter is Intel 82915G/GV/910GL EXPRESS Chipset Family 128Mb snappycappy ..... It sounds like it may be the monitor, however, try it on another MACHINE to be sure.
