Answer» HP a1616n Purchased used, loaded with malware and other unwanted things ( been working on cleaning it up with the help of EvilFantasy on the virus thread ) Most problems seem to be fixed at this point in time except for this an occasional ( few second ) black out of the monitor. The video card is an ATI radeon express 200 series. Driver update is 4/4/06 Can not seem to find an update for this card on the ATI website and when i do a search for one there seems to be several companies that want me to install something that will help me find all driver updates. ie: Driver Detective, Driver update pro, are these programs the way to find out if an update is available? Can the blinking be something else?I strongly suggest you finish up with Evilfantasy in the Computer Virus and Spyware Section before we try to fix anything else.Pretty sure that we're done there...maybe i need to ask him. Will try the Envision to see if the blinking happens with that.Sounds like a plan For what it's worth: The new monitor didn't blink but there was audio interference which isn't there with the HP. i'm going to try a set of cheap speakers just to see if the sound crackle is in the computer or the HP monitor? The HP hasn't been on enough since EF walked me through the clean->up and updating everything relative from MS. The computer runs very fast and very well now. Maybe i should IMAGE the drive? Before i install any new programs i'll search around here in the data base for any thumbs up or thumbs down on the program and those things associated with it. Has ANYONE used or is using the MagicJack phone device and software? If you are i'd like to KNOW if it works even half as good as a "normal land line"? It looks like the monitor is OK, then. Does blinking occur in Safe Mode, as well? Try to reinstall video driver. DISREGARD Windows saying, it's up to date. If it doesn't help, remove video card, ENABLE on-board video, and see, if same thing happens. We'll go from there.
