Solve : Monitor image reduced to thin horizontal line in the middle?

I was using my computer when the bottom half of screen turned black
as I was TRYING to adjust my vert. hold the top went and now I have a THIN line in the middle

I also smelled somthing burning in the monitor at the time this happenedRepair or replace. Some TV shops will repair monitors. Just weigh the costs and go from there.Thx
