Solve : Monitor keeps shutting down at start-up...?

Answer»

This is my first time replacing HARDWARE, and it may be a simple fix, as in flipping the ribbon connector, etc...I took my old pentium IV computer, and was setting it up for just gaming. When I tried running my windows 98' second edition disc I discovered that I had a bad disk drive. I purchased a new one and installed it, but now my Monitor won't stay on, and displays for a couple seconds before shutting itself off again that it can't find a cable connection. I was very careful changing out the bad drive, but may have jiggled something else loose by the video card. Any direction WOULD be helpful. I have very little experience with the MECHANICS part of a computer.

I tested the monitor on my other 2 computers, it's fine, also pulled the video card, and re seated it. stioll the same thing even tried a different monitor. still the same issue,,, is there a way to test the video card before replacing to see if that is REALLY the issue. Jeffi have had the same prob ever since i installed my new video card 5 months ago it just takes several reboots' to get it to stay onyou may wish to test the monitor on a working computer before you assume that it was the result of jiggling something loose, as it could be purely coincidental that the monitor died right after you were in the case. Check to make sure your video card is seated properly in it's slot on the motherboard.
