Solve : monitor shadows?

Answer»

I have a five YEAR old Gateway computer system and had been using the CRT monitor that came with that system until recently.  About a year ago, the monitor started showing horizontal "shadows" or dark bands across the screen.  I can still see the image on the screen, but there are darker bands throughout that seem to originate from darker objects within the images.  I replaced the CRT last week with a new flat screen LCD monitor, but the shadows are still there.  I also replaced the cable that connects the monitor and the cpu.  Does anyone know what else could be causing the problem?
Thanks,
MikeAs soon as you started using the LCD monitor, did those bands show up RIGHT away, or did they show up after a couple of days using it?

[glb]Gizmo73[/glb]The shadows showed up right away.
I remember because I was bummed the monitor was not the fix.
I have only been using this new monitor for 2 days.
TIA  HOPE this helps!
I forgot to include that the tower is a gateway performance 800.
The monitor was a ev910 18" view.
New monitor is an Advantage 1901B 19-inch LCD.
Drivers did not seem to be an issue, it found the one necessary right away and it was up and running.
MikeSounds like it could be the video card, try uninserting and re-inserting the video card into its slot and see what happens. Otherwise, try a different card.

[glb]Gizmo73[/glb]Thanks for the advice.  I will try something with the video card.  First I will have to find out how to do it.  This site should help!
Mike
type dxdiag in the run box......test graphics......it maybe the psu is getting old??//breaking down......the biggest load on a pc is starting up.........try hibenate it.........does it still do it?Merlin 2,     Yes it still has the shadowing and upon a closer look some of the lines appear blurred!?
I did the sugested tests and tried the troubleshooter and it says everything is good.  I do use shutdown to turn off the computer.   Not hibernate.
And I do shut down and turn on about 2-3 times per week.
Will doing hibernate now help?
How do I check my power supply?
We have a lot of power outages here.  Maybe I just need a new tower.

So my norton is of no help here?
Is this "Spy Sweeper worth buying?
Can this possibly be what is troubling my monitor?
How do I check my video card in another way than runing a system test?
Can I test my power supply?
Thanks, Mike
Adaware & CWShredder should clean up most of that stuff, give them a run then re-check to see what's left.I would suspect the  psu......>bigger cvt....more power.....

Try this ....>http://www.freshdevices.com/drive.html  You need
one dodgey email addy?...needed...otherwise=spam.....

i always ....recommend syweeper.....above all other imao....but ...no one listens.........is out strip msoft.....updates.and another good one is winxp antispy....but for a cvt monitior ..consider that facts....is it faulty....is your graphics card/ psu up to it....what res are you running on 65/75 mhz?Download & install the latest drivers from the manufacturers website.
Does your new LCD require a driver or is it only the video card?
Either way get them all.
