Answer» halo...
i have a strange problem with my monitor: when im on my pc, it occassionally starts to switch itself on and off rapidly (about 1 on-off per SECOND, sometimes at constant intervals). it doesnt stop until i turn it off, wait a minute and turn it on again. then i go back to whatever i did before, and after 10-15 minutes it starts turning itself on/off again, and so on...
the weird thing is that it only happens when im here, doing stuff... when im away or asleep it seems to be ok (the noise it makes would certainly wake me up if it ever happened at night...)
i tried to use a new power cable and it didnt help... any ideas...?PLEASE post the hardware and software specs of your machine.
What version windows are you running? What kind of monitor is it? Is it an LCD or CRT (flat PANEL or big monster)? How old is it? It might just be getting too old and worn out.sorry...
i have a pentium 2, 350 mhz, 64mb ram the monitor is philips 107mb (not lcd) im running windows 98, first editionIt sounds like it's just an old monitor trying to give up the ghost. Time to upgrade! I guess you could try unplugging it for a couple days and see if it clears up any....I had an old CRT monitor that did this exact same thing. Had a capacitor changed in it and it worked great for another year before just dying completely.
Finding someone who is willing to do this isn't easy though. Depending on where you live, it might not be cheap either. You might just be better off getting a new monitor. You could try local electronics repair shops and see if they're willing to TAKE a look at it and see what it might cost.
(I live in Asia. An electronics repair shop down the street fixed it for me for $10.)
