Solve : Monitor won't turn on?

Answer»

System was acting unstable for about a week randomly rebooting. Monitor was firing up after several tries however now I can't seem to get it to turn over at all. I've tried replacing most everything with spare parts (mainboard, hard drive, ram, power supply & video card) however don't have a spare processor for motherboard. tested all parts on other machines and they seem to work fine. Motherboard doesn't give any beeps or led signals indicating a problem. Monitor will turn on for separate system. Is there anything I forgot to check (besides processor)? Is there a simple test to check processor?

System Specs

P4 3.0 800FSB
Gigabyte 915 Pro Duo A Motherboard
2x 512 mb kingston ddr ram
160 WESTERN DIGITAL SATA Hard Drive
XFX Geforce 128mbit Video Card
Sony DVD Drive
400w PSU

Please help i'm going through severe Civ 4 withdrawls don't know if I can make it any longer before I resort to the humiliation of standing in line with gray haired grandmothers in line at Geek Squad.

Did you check the power outlet at the wall?Is the motherboard shorting out on the case somehow? Loose connections, a wayward screw lodged under it are things I have seen. Check for swollen or leaking capacitors on the MB.

Run RAM tester on the memory. Only use 1 stick and get free download at www.memtest86.com

If none of this WORKS, strip it to the BARE essentials - 1 RAM, video card, no drives andn see if it boots and runs for any lengh of time.

Let us know what you find.

checked case for shorts don't see anything strange. As dar as capacitors go can't really tell if any are swollen but not sure I know exactly was a abnormality would like in that department. All connections seem firm and secure. Really stuck as what to do. Stripped down version does the same thing (nothing).I would then take that processor to a computer repair shop and have them test it for you. It sounds like you have ruled out other possibilities, so that LEAVES CPU and MB. If the CPU is good, is the MB still under warranty?
