Solve : Most pathetic mistake ever. Seriously.?

Answer»

I had taken out my RAM to test each STICK individually because I thought one MIGHT be corrupted. After the computer froze up while testing second stick, I'm not sure if I simply left it frozen like that, or simply restarted the computer rather than shutting it off. WHATEVER the case, I tried to plug in a stick of RAM while the computer was ON. I didn't register any problem with this until, as I was wiggling the stick to get it in, the computer shut off. In fact I think it may have been in, but not clicked, and then coming out when the computer decided to turn off. I replaced the memory and tried to turn it back on. It didn't turn back on, and I started crying.

I'm likely going to call the manufacturer, admit my failings as a human being, and hang my head in shame as I ship the computer, along with my life savings, back to them to do whatevers necessary. That is, unless somone here can console me and give me any advice. If somone could at least tell me what probably went wrong, I'd really appreciate it. I'm assuming its something horrible like I short circuited the motherboard or something equally expensive and annoying to fix. If only warranties covered acts of idiocy.

THANKS for any help, and I hope you get a decent laugh.

I once did something more stupid! I put so much force on an AMD 939 heatsink that the screwdriver slipped out of my hand and piercied a capacitor.

Is the mainboard or RAM still under warranty?

Have you tried simply resetting the CMOS first with a known good working RAM stick in a different SLOT?well I called them up. they told me how to test the power supply so I did that and its fine. I moved the sticks of RAM around and nothing worked, so they're sending a new motherboard. Switching that will be my next big challenge.

thanks for the replyIf you haven't installed many mainboards, write down some pointers to think about before installing it otherwise you might end up having to remove it again if you forget something.. Like the I/O shield. Or the henway.
