Solve : Motherboard boots sometimes....?

Answer»

Hi,

Could someone please help me troubleshoot this problem.
About half a year ago I bought the computer with the following specs,

INTEL Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz 6M 1333MHz 45nm

Gigabyte EP43-DS3 LGA775 DDR2 1200 FSB 1600MHz 2x PCI-E x16 6 x SATA GLAN
1394 ATX

ASUS NvidiaGerforce EN9500GT MAGIC/DI/512M, NATIVE HDMI

400W PSU
500Gb WD HD

I installed three fans, on top of the CPU fan. (4 fans all up), and a second hard drive from my old computer.

About 7 months later, it just RANDOMLY couldn't get pass its intial boot.
It turns on fine, then when it GETS to its turn on buzzer beep, it gives a weak short beep, waits abit, then restarts and does the same thing.

So I unplugged all of the components connected to the motherboard. The motherboard did the same thing.
I then proceeded to connect each component one by one. It still didin't work.
I sat down waited about 10 MINUTES, tried turning it on again, and it worked.

Exactly the same thing happened about two weeks later.
I am confident it isnt a loose connection or a short.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this. Please help I would be very greatful.

TobyI would guess its the power supply or the board. If you can chang out the power supply>I have checked the PSU with a multimeter , and all the voltages are correct.
But I will try changing it for a new one. Is there anyway I can check if it is the PSU without replacing it?

Thanks Quote from: vadar on July 21, 2009, 08:25:00 PM

I don't know how you can test this...but the current may not be enough.

Try a known working PSU (borrow or USE a spare) of the same or greater wattage and see what happens did you try new ram?
