Solve : Motherboard gone bad?? |
|
Answer» I was just wondering how I can determine if my motherboard has gone bad. What brand and wattage ids the replacement PSU ? ?The PSU is a Logisys and it shows the max wattage as being 480. I ran MemTest and it reported no problems. Quote from: rooskie94 on January 19, 2010, 07:27:53 PM IF your trying to find the model number and the company who makes the MB it should have a print between the RAM and the cpu. if thats not what you are looking for please re-correct me. thanksI re-checked the mobo and still cannot find any sort of identification on it. Quote from: JJ 3000 on January 19, 2010, 08:35:01 PM Sounds like the hard drive is bad. When you replaced the drive did you use the same data cable? How long has it been since you installed windows? Did you make any changes to your system right before this started?I didn't literally change the hard drive myself. I had it replaced by a repair shop, so I have no idea if it is the same cable. Windows was reinstalled at the same time the new drive was, so about a month ago. And I didn't make any changes to the system right before this started. Quote from: dahlarbear on January 21, 2010, 02:53:29 AM Is this the "same" computer as your previous thread <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.Ah, I forgot about that thread. I was relatively sure that I had posted a thread recently, but wasn't aware that it was on this site. My apologies. (I actually didn't even know that anyone had replied, so would you like me to still follow the instructions that you listed on there?) Yes, this is indeed the same computer as in that thread. However, I am unsure about how to edit my first post so that it may include the link. I can't seem to find an edit button... This computer was made back in 2004 I believe, so about 6 years old. I wasn't even aware that there were temp sensors in the computer. How do I access them? If you are going to buy a new mono, you want to think about getting ONE that is compatible with the parts you have. Do you have CPU-Z? http://www.cpuid.com/ The above program tells a lot about your system. It may not ID you mobo, but it will tel you what CPU you have. and some additional information. Like the chip set. It would be nice to get a new MoBo with he same chip set so you don't have to install drivers all over again. Maybe. Should it be near the "quote" button? Or perhaps up there with "reply"? Because apparently mine is missing... Edit: I can modify this post, but not the first one. CPU Temp Info: Update: Today while starting up the computer gave me a gray screen(that's a first) with a bunch of symbols on it and a blinking cursor. After that I restarted it in normal mode and it came up to the desktop. However I kept getting a message that dwwin.exe failed to initialize. When I clicked okay(or whatever the option was to end it) the start bar would vanish for about 2 minutes and then pop back up. So I restarted again. I tried booting into Safe Mode, but I GOT a blue screen that said something along the lines of "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage...". Another restart... This time I chose to go to the "Last Known Good Configuration" and it worked. Now aside from being slow to respond the computer SEEMS to be working. Occasionally the windows I have open and start bar change to what appears to be similar to the Windows 98 start bar and windows, but other than that I haven't got any error messages. Though I do expect to get some in the near future... |
