Answer» i just installed my new MSI k8t800 motherboard, with my new athlon 3200+ 64bit cpu. unfortunantly i have no internet access. i've never installed a motherboard before WITHOUT starting from scratch (this time i already had all my software and hardware installed before hand). i had problems installing drivers earlier so i reinstalled windows 98. now that everything seemed to be running alright, i attempted to access the internet. nothing. but there are a few weird "symptoms" which i've noticed.
i clicked start>run... then entered "winipcfg" this is were things began to baffle me. when ever i would renew/release all, my computer would find the IP of my modem. and when i try to connect view a webpage (with IE or mozilla) there would be no delay for the "could not conect" mesage, just instanlty says page could not ve found. You allready installed drivers before you installed the motherboard? I donot see in how you could have done that, I will assume you took the HDD to another computer and installed drivers from there.
I suggest you format the HDD if that is the case and reinstall your drivers with all the components in place.i'm sorry. i must have worded this poorly. i'll explain in more detail.
i did not INSTALL the drivers for the new motherboard until after l put the motherboard in. after putting in the motherboard windows didn't think i had a cd-rom, however the bios did. so i reinstalled windows which allowed windows to notice there was a cd-rom there which allowed me to install the drivers. now everything WORKS fine except for the internet. Are you using an On-board LAN/Ethernet card? You may require to install (updated) motherboard drivers in order to use the On-board card(s).
If you have done so, and it still does not work, you can try quite a few things.
- Run NETWORK Wizard
- Run Internet Wizard
- Reset Modem (Cable Modem)
- Check if Network card is enabled in BIOS
- Uninstall Network card from Device Manager (If present)
What kind of Internet connection do you have connected?
