Answer» I recently had the occasion to install a 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM stick into a Dell XPS model WHL computer.There already existed 2x256 MB of the same RAM in it. I noticed that there were 4 available ram slots. However they are a little different than what i have seen in computers before.The 4 are in SETS of 2.In each set there is a slot that has black tabs and a slot that has a white tab.Prior to installing the new 512 there was a 256 in each of the sets in the white tabs slots. Without moving either of the 2 already in i installed the 512 in the black slot beside the 1st white tab in the 1st set. Questions: What is the SIGNIFICANCE of the difference in the slot colours and should i have done anything different to obtain a greater advantage from the MEMORY increase?thank you,truenorth |
