Solve : Motherboards/graphics card?

Hi
I was wondering if different motherboards CHANGE the speed of the computer.
Like a more expensive motherboard, with lets say with a QUAD core in it, is it going to be faster than a cheaper motherboard, with the same processor.

I know that some motherboards can't have some processors on them, like a old motherboard you can't INSTALL a new processor on in.

and is PCI slots for newer graphics cards?

No, PCI EXPRESS slots are for newer graphics cards.
