Solve : multi station pc info needed?

Answer»

I am a small BUSINESS owner who would like to use 1 good computer and have 2 stations where i can access and update my business inventory, from the sales floor and the shipping/receiving area. I currently have an old wired networking setup from my house (no longer used) but i don't know if this would do what I want. Anyone have any suggestions?Debora:

I recommend using CAT5e or CAT6 UTP cable and NICs capable of 100 mbps.  The CAT5 or 6 cable may be up to 300 ft. between COMPUTERS.  ETHERNET networks are still faster than wireless, and EASIER to secure.

I'd also strongly recommend investing in a router with a built-in hardware firewall to protect your business data.  All three nodes may connect to the router and use it as a DHCP server and gateway to share files and printers with one another and access the Internet. Of course, every computer should have a good antivirus program installed, and updated at least weekly.

You may connect the computers yourself pretty cheaply and leave the UTP cables visible, but a professional may do a better job with hiding the cables within the walls of your small office.
