Solve : My brother is having sound issues with his PC - HELP!? |
|
Answer» A month or so ago he was using his computer when he said all of the sudden the speakers started only playing static, no other audio. He checked to make sure the speakers weren't bad by using a pair of headphones and got the same static. I was just over there earlier and first did a system restore to around when he thought the PROBLEM started which didn't help. I then updated his mobo drivers. He has an Nvidia NForce 560M2NSLI board with integrated audio, but that didn't help either. He is using Win XP Pro, also, in case anyone NEEDS to know. I tried searching for a new audio driver but couldn't find anything. Under his 'sounds and audio devices properties, his default sound playback default device is listed as "PnP Audio Device". I have done pretty much everything I could think of, so now I need suggestions, because at this point I'm thinking he just needs to buy a sound card. The only concern I have there is will a sound card CAUSE any conflicts with his mobo since it had onboard audio? any ERRORS in device manager? his default sound playback default device is listed as "PnP Audio Device" Quote from: roccenstein on February 16, 2010, 10:18:58 PM OK, the one that is in error is listed is under "network adapters" and says "nvidia nforce networking controller" Both of these point to missing drivers, or the wrong driver is installed. Can you change the "PnP Audio Device" option to anything else? I'd reinstall the chipset and motherboard drivers again- this TIME make sure it's the right set for the motherboard, that might have been the issue. If he wanted to he could install a sound card with no ill effects. then he could also get a network card to "replace" the onboard one that has no driver, but it's probably the case that the two issues have a common cause. There is no other option for the audio devices. As for the motherboard driver, I downloaded it from Nvidia and installed it last night, but I didn't think about the chipset drivers. Where would I locate them, or even know which he would need?Any other suggestions or should I just look into getting a stand alone sound card and hope that fixes it?Hello I`m Eric.Have you ever heard of the;DriverGuide toolkit ? It can help you with ALL drivers. It scans, updates and finds drivers for you. There are more of these programs but this one has helped me once or twice. I wish you and your brother all the best, good luck and greetz;Eric. |
