Solve : My Christmas wish: I wish my speakers would work?

Answer»

Hi,
I recently had to reinstall XP on my comp and for the past few days I have been trying desperately to get my computer to once again detect my Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers. I have a Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G motherboard with an onboard sound card and I've been installing all the drivers i can find in order to get it to recognize my speakers like it used to. The last two drivers i tried were here http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2281 under Audio. I thought for sure one of them would work, but alas, when i tried each, neither did. I'm all out of ideas, can anyone help me out?

thanks!Did you install chipset driver, first?yes, but because i got the installation FILE from a FRIEND with faster internet, i will DL it myself and install againAlso...
Did you try speakers on another computer?
Does Device Manager show any errors?yes, the speakers work on the other, older computer i have without errorsTry to reinstall those chipset drivers, then.ok, from this site http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2281 i INSTALLED the fourth chipset driver, and reinstalled the two audio drivers separately, and still, sound and audio devices on the control panel does not recognize the speakersQuote from: Broni on December 24, 2008, 09:59:29 PM

Does Device Manager show any errors?
my speakers are not listed in the device managerI think what they meant was the onboard sound card..No audio devices at all?
Do you see a picture of a speaker anywhere? It will probably say something like: "Sound" beside of it.here are the things listed under Sound, video and game controllers in the device manager:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs

these things and my CD/DVD Rom devices are the only hardware listed available in my Sounds and Audio Devices menu in the Control PanelAre there any yellow question marks or red X's in the device manager?
Is the onboard audio enabled in BIOS?
Do other speakers work on that computer? You said you have an older computer. Have you tried the speakers that go with the older one on that machine?there is one yellow question mark in the DM under Other Devices for a "PCI Device" whatever that is. I don't know about the BIOS enabling, so that could be a good lead. I won't be able to switch out speakers til tomorrow.

I just want to thank everyone who has posted trying to help. I was pretty frustrated when this problem popped up. I gotta go to bed for x-mas morning tomorrow, but I'll definitely check out the BIOS thing and try other speakers and post back.

Thanks and merry christmas everyone! You need a driver for that. Right click on it and select update driver. Let it search the internet for the driver. If those speakers came with a cd point it to the cd drive
