Solve : My Computer is a MESS?

Answer»

ok, here's the deal. my old system was a 2001 P.O.S, so i figured it was time to upgrade. i spent a few days gathering information on pc parts and stuff. i got my motherboard, CPU, gpu, power supply, and a new case (all listed below), i kept my old hd, CDD, and dvdd. i put it all together went though and got it configured, got to the loggin and it froze, so i turned it off. i went to turn it back on and all it did was flash for like 1/2 a second. i tired unplugging everything and re-plugging it , and it still did't work. at this point i am mad, not only did UPS take 8 hours to travel 25mins from the scan station to my house, but now this thing wont work. any ideas?

Your motherboard is grounding out on the case.

i put it all together went though and got it configured, got to the loggin and it froze
...... May I assume that it was powered up for a few minutes before the freeze up ?
Perhaps you might let us in on what you mean by " got it configured"

Did the old hard drive contain some operating system ?

Please let us know.

dl65 i got the Bios set up and stuff and went to loggin and then it froze. yes OS is Windows XP SP2.Penguin...... This is just a shot in the dark, but was the operating system on the hard drive installed and running on the old machine ? If it was , that's the problem ....you will have to format it and then reinstall the operating system.........
you may have to phone MS to explain that the machine that XP was installed on no longer exists........
If there is DATA on the drive you wish to recover, I would slave it to another machine and save WHATEVER you need onto cd's. Then format the drive and reinstall XP/SP2 clean.

dl65 yes it was from an old computer, but would that explain wht it wont even turn on?Thank you all for your wounderful help, but my stupid self had the PSU set to 115 not 230...it works now. and purrs like a KITTEN. *MODIFY* i plugged in the monitor and it does not work. i've checked my RAM and GPU and they are fine. im having a bad time, this is my first build.
