Solve : My Computer PCI Card Disappeared!?

Answer»

I am trying to import from my mini DV camera into my computer to do some editing. I use a pirated VERSION of AVID Xpress PRO. Or the Legit version of Ulead Visual Studio 8. But all that don't matter to my problem as it seems my PCI card no longer exsist on my computer.

I bought a sound card a while a go and it was then where the problem first appeared, but the technician who installed the soundcard was able to fix it right away.
I don't know if the PCI dissapeared the next time i restarted my computer but i do need it now and it's just not there.

I went to device manager and there is no trace of it. I thought i should probably UNINSTALL the driver and restart the computer but i don't know how (since the PCI card is not there for me to right click).

I went to BIOS and checked that USB is enabled. What do i do? I need the soundcard for both programs or they will not work. And of course, i need the firewire for the camera. So neither are dispensable.

My system is:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Computer:
Intel(R)Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
3.00 GHz, 1.87 GB of RAM
Physical Adress Extension

Sound card is (reading off the box)
Audio Extreme 5.1
innoAX (innoVISION) TM
www.inno3d.com

As for the firewire well it's "Made In China" hehehe...
USB2.0Card+IEEE 1394 FIREWIRE
Which ACCORDING to the box is supported by Windows XP

What can be done?

This is always a problem with machines...but enough about that.

Re-install your MBoard drivers and re-boot...Well if you can give me 1500$ for the real one i'd be happy to stop all my illegal activities .

Can you tell me how i basicly do that? I may seem to know what i'm talking about but i have no idea. I have the driver for this computer... Got it while recieving my computer. What next?I think i did it... I put the intel cd and a window popped up. It had a list of drivers and other applications. I checked all the drivers minus the sound one.

It installed them again i suppose... restarted automatically after every driver.
Then A new hardware was found and it was something BIOS. But a file was missing and i was unable to locate it. If i remember correctly it was called SMBios... not sure.

Edit:

Ok i restarted and got the "Found new Hardware again"

It's for: Intel (R) System Management BIOS Driver.
(live narration from now on )
I click. Install the software automatically as RECOMMENDED.

...

A loops is scanning the screen lol...

...

The CD-Rom worked a bit. The Driver CD is still there btw.

still searching...

...

setting a system restore point...

now the message i get is:
The file SMBios.sys on (unknown) is needed.

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

Copy Files From:

It's not on the cd... Nor on C nor D (which are my hard drives of 2 seperate hard disks)

Running a search for 'files and folders' on all hard drives just to make sure i'm not supposed to give the exact path.

Found:
'mssmBios' system file in C:Windows\system32\Drivers
now is looking in D: so i dont think we found anything.

... yup nothing else is found.

Conducting the same search on the CD.
no results.

That's as far as i know and dare to go.

Will need help again. Please?

No i don't have $1500.00 for you...sorry.
When installing MBoard drivers sometimes each COMPONENT requires a re-boot...this is why the process keeps repeating itself.
Follow it thru to the end.Yes man i have. There's just this one thing now.. SMBios. No file for it. Where can i get a SMBios.sys?

And the PCI card still not there.Try your board manuf. website.nah.. intel don't have it. Maybe i should just disable it? what would happen without it?

Edit: anyways, this didn't fix my problem. anything else we can try?*bump*

got anything for me?You didn't state who's MBoard this is...

DLoad and run Everest Home and it will tell you.
