Solve : My computer says there is no disc in drive when there is...?

Answer»
I'm trying to burn a music cd using wmp and I GET a message that says there is no disc in the drive when there is a brand new, empty disc in there.
I have tried sonic record now as well as the windows cd copying utility and received the same message.
I also tried sytem restore back a month ( I CANT remember the last time I used the disc drives), different discs and cleaing the dust out of the tower to no avail.

I have a cheap DELL Celeron with 512 MB of Ram, Xp OS version 2002 service pack 3. I'm not sure what else to include..

Any suggestions? I had planned to give cd's for Christmas but this will certainly put a damper on that idea.....
THANKS in advance..From my experience, the drive is going south.I agree with the other guy. The drive is bad. I had the same problem not to long ago.My Computer's DVD Rom is not also able to detect any CD/DVD.
Neither it can read CD/DVD nor burn CD.
I am assuming that it's the problem of my OS or a Virus.
I don't want to format my PC this week, may be next week.
I'll surely post the result here.Quote from: setahrya on December 15, 2008, 03:06:32 PM

Try reinstalling the device by removing it from the device manager under My Computer -> properties. kameshwar
