Hi guys. I am a new member and i really need your help in the following.

I have dell inspiron 6400 dual core. T2130 Processor 1.83GHz, 512MB RAM. The OS is Microsoft XP pro. It was too slow, when i asked i was told to increase the RAM. I had another 512MB installed (now i have 1GB of RAM), but this made only a slight change, if any.

How can make it faster in applications and in opining windows? plz help.Download HijackThis:

Elaborate more about computer being slow.Hi. Thanks for being patient with me. i already have ccleaner and i run it periodically. By slow i mean that if compared to older versions of Dell (like inspiron 1300 ?) with RESPECT for example to opening word programme my computer takes longer. keeping in mind that the above mentioned Dell has LOWER processor and RAM. Also in opening wep pages my laptop takes longer than that one. This is to mention only a few. What are the specs of other computer?
How are things in Safe Mode?
Have you noticed a difference after updating to AVG ver. 8.0, or you didn't have earlier version installed?Well, am not quite sure about the specs of the other laptop. I do not think that the AVG is the reason because i tried to stop the programme and to check the speed i found it to be the same, only a slight change in speed. About SAFEMODE i dont think i understand you, will you plz clarify more. Even, if you exit AVG, some services may be still running.
They shouldn't be running in Safe Mode. To access Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu is shown.HI, I tried the safe mode but i noticed it to be even slower than the normal way. in running applications like the MS Word programme it took longer to open. similarly with other programmes.Did you run defrag recently?yes i ran defrag recently. it took so long to complete. still no change.Unfortunately, I'm out of ideas here, unless you have some hardware problem.
It wouldn't hurt to run hard drive diagnostic tool.
