Answer» Hi Guys, So I decided to hibernate my PC, and finish off the download tomorrowSeems to have cause something here... Try slaving your hard drive and see if you can RETRIEVE some data first on another working machine. http://www.dtidata.com/resourcecenter/2007/04/23/how-to-slave-hard-drive/ Quote from: jason2074 on November 12, 2010, 09:57:23 PM Seems to have cause something here... Is there another computer you are able to test the drive in? Does it spin up and initialize when you turn on?Silly me I forgot to test if it spins. I'll test it tonight when I get home. Still nothing....This indicates it's dead but do as Kurtiskain suggested. Spinning is only an indication that the motor is working. It could be the drive or maybe the sata CONTROLLER. If you have a desktop, use a different SATA plug-in on your motherboard. If you want to diagnose the problem, see if another drive works. Otherwise, try installing the drive in an external enclosure and hooking it up via USB to retrieve your data that way. Either way, I would not trust that HDD anymore and getting your data off of it would be top priority. I would get into removing the platters to retrieve your data if all else fails but eh, you can just google that I did forget to mention I tried the HDD in a known working SATA port with working CABLING. As I have an identical HDD that is fine. Anyway, the disk in quetion is screwed. It does spin up fine, but it is not DETECTED in another PC. ok, so can I get the data back myself? Is there any way to do so or will I have to take it to a data recovery agent. Get a quotation to see for yourself.Gee Willikers Batman, I'm screwed. Oh well, looks like I have to fork out the dough. |
