Answer»

My New ACer Aspire 3684 wxmi cant read cds ,Dvds the cd or dvd when inserted it doesnt show anywhere on my computer.it just makes the usual noise of opening up BT after SOMETIME it keeps quite and nothing shws on the screen. Can some one there help with the solutions?  the optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device is the one installed as the drive software. With a CD/DVD in if you open up My Computer or Windows Explorer is the drive showing up ? ?when i open the device manager, i see   the optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device but there is a yellow mark which to me indicates that the software isnt working though i have tried to scan or get updated it doesnt work. wht can i do then.
even the My computer isnt shown on my Vista at all.I think that in Vista "my computer" is called just "computer", check it out.Right click the CD/DVD drive with the yellow ! and select uninstall...you will get a warning message, ignore it.
Close all programs and re-boot. Vista will automatically re-install the device.when i click uninstall and reboot it says i consult the manufacturer and i have no adress to consult. still the cds and dvds cant b read. any other ALTERNATIVE that i ca use plz to access and LISTEN to my Cds and watch Dvd. or if iam to buy a software wht can i buy?Joseph.79.......  It's sounds as if your Acer Aspire is brand new..... Have you tried GOING back to the retailler who sold it to you ?

Has it always refused to read a cd or dvd ?

there is a yellow mark
In this case, as patio said, it must be uninstalled/reinstalled.
If you're getting an error, while doing this, maybe drive itself is bad.
Your best option would be to try it on another computer. Also double check to see if the ribbon cable is hooked up properly... thanx guys will try that
