Solve : My PC power cycles a few times before turning on...? |
|
Answer» So everytime I hard boot my computer it power cycles 3-4 times before it will completely load up windows. Im guessing it has something to do with the RAM, but Ive tried messing with the power settings and it doesnt seem to help. It has been doing this SINCE I put it together last year and have just delt with it, but I know this cant be good on it. Any ideas? What are you referring to with a "hard boot"? Please explain what it is you are actually doing that eventually does get the computer working. Was there anything that you changed or added to the computer that was coincident with this 1st occurring? If you think it may be RAM related remove all the sticks and add them back one at a time (leaving each one in by itself for a time to see if the computer stays running). Then with only one in try the others one at a time to see if things change. Could also be a defective power on switch. Once it does run does it stay running? What is your operating system?Sounds like a home built computer is that correct? truenorthExactly at what point in the startup does it recycle? Yeah sorry, so by hardboot I mean powering it on from on off state and not just a restart. The computer works fine and stays running after the boot up, but that power cycle issue at first is what bothers me. Im on Windows 7 and Ive built several computers, but never run into this problem before. I might try removing the RAM and trying them 1 at a time. That is one thing I havent tried yet... It gets to POST then shuts off for a few seconds then turns itself back on doing this 3-4 times before it finally boots up to windows. I would suspect Power Supply (The capacitors in them) and or capacitors on the motherboard, graphics card or any add-on cards. This is symptomatic behaviour we usually see here in the workshop. If you have another machine with a PSU of the same or GREATER capacity, try that first.Ive actually tried a different PSU and that didnt help.I've got one that does the same, might restart 0-4 times before the POST. Once it POSTs, it boots & RUNS with no issues. Been fooling with it for months, now I just wait for it to boot. It's a Gigabyte "dual-BIOS" with Pentium-D. I think sometime in the past, the mobo took a power surge because the onboard LAN is dead. All components except the CPU are from different computers.I really hope it isnt an issue with the MOBO. All parts were BRAND new at the time and I just delt with it so now its far beyond warranty. |
