Answer» Hye Guys I've got a funny 56k Modem, when I start it and start downloading something it starts of with a speed of 56 - 100 KByte per minute and then it SINKS to 4-1. Does anyone know how keep the top speed constant or around that high level of DSL ?Well if you have a 56kbps modem that's Dial up.
You average speed for that is about 4kbps MAX.
For DSL it can vary from 150kps up too a Meg depending on connection speed.Yeah well my Modem is mysterious as said in the topic-header.And as already said the DOWNLOADS start of with a speed of 64kBytes/min and then sink to 4 or less. I'm sure other people have already expierenced this to. :-/An initial modem connection will show as the high END until the modem has enough time to read packets and report a true connection speed. This is completely normal.

patio. Is this download or upload speed......and how many pcs are connected to it via a hub? This is a download speed and I don't work in a network. patio Well if it shows the speed of the conneting computer then the connecting computer must have that speed with the user (me), but somehow it turns down the speed. Smehow you should be able to stop that!Is this some kind of WinModem or a real hardware controlled modem? When was the last time you had your phone line checked? I believe Patio is right, that it is normal. I use a v.92 that runs at 56k. On downloads it MIGHT start as high as 9.5, but WITHIN a few seconds usually it's leveled out to around 5.5 or so. Has a lot to do with your actual connection speed too.We need to know more.........what make it the 56k , internal/external what pc is it connected to.....and isp and is it connected to an extension lan cable......
