Solve : Nameservers? |
|
Answer» Hello Is that likely to be because I have not set the nameservers?Your domain name is on file with a domain registrar. The registrar service is different from the web host service. Even if both are with the DAME company, it is still two different services. Only the registrar can point your domain to name-servers. The name-servers, ion TURN , point to the web host directory where your site is hosted. So you have to log into the registrar and set name-servers. Example: You have bought a domain called High1.ca from a company called host-canada.ca and they set the name-servers to ns1 and ns2.host--canada.ca but you buy web space from a company called web-united.us and the nameservers are ns1 and ns2.web-united.us respectively You have to log into web-united.us.ca and set the domain to point to the new nameservers. It may take 72 hours for the nameservers to propagate. You can not set the nameservers in the control panel of the we host. You set the nameservers in the control panel of the we registrar. To add to the confusion, it is not always clear if you are in a domain control panel or a web space control panel. Sites like 1and1 and go-daddy offer both services. If you like that, fine. If that is the case, ask them for help. After a bad experience, I now keep my registrar and host service separate. A flaky domain company STOLE my domains over a dispute I had with my web service. Hello Sorry to hear of your bad experience. Yes, now that you have explained it, it's coming back to me: it's just been so long since I registered the name that I forgot the name of the company I registered it with and had to go to Whois Lookup, hehehehe. In my case, they are two different companies on two different continents so I can kind of put them in different boxes in my mind. Thanks again for your reply. High1 Glad to help. |
