Answer» In the middle of a Skype call, my ability to be heard suddenly stopped (I could still hear the other party just fine). - I changed headsets, got the same result; tested both headsets on another computer, both tested fine. - Switched mic input jacks (tried all 3 sets available, with both headsets), got same result. - Installed newest DRIVERS, same result. - Bought and installed new sound card with appropriate newest drivers, same result.
Skype sees my sound card but does not register any input signal; same with voice functions in other programs.
What's left to try? Would you suspect a problem with the motherboard, and if so, is there a good way to test that before I invest in a new one?
My system:
Gateway, Pentium 4 3.40 GHz 4 GB RAM Intel BTX 915G (South Lake 2) 800 MHz Motherboard Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card Win XP SP2
Let me know if you need any more particulars, and thanks in advance for the help Have you tried another microphone.......unless the headset has a microphone?Yes, both headsets have microphones. Right Click the Volume Icon near the System CLOCK and go to Open Volume Control. Go to Options --> Properties and select the Output in the drop-down menu. Hit ok. Make sure all the sliders are at full and make sure there are no ticks in the check boxes. See if you can hear anything.
If not, post back.Done, with the exception that it was the recording function (input) I NEEDED to select -- the output is fine, it's input from mic that's not registering -- and the microphone checkbox was ticked because it's the input device. Still no input sound registering.
With respect, I'm pd sure this is not a settings problem. All settings diagnostics were done before I replaced the sound card. Same with other software and HARDWARE diagnostics as described in original message.Wait, sorry!!
I meant select the Input device from the Drop Down Menu.
